Professor Kandas received her Bachelor of Science Degree in criminal justice from Grand Valley State University located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She also received her Master’s Degree in public administration from the same school, and she received a Graduate Certificate in homeland security from the University of Michigan State. Within the business community, Professor Kandas currently serves in the United States Marine Corps as a Communication Officer. She has served for eight years, and she has deployed four times. She also is a fitness instructor, and she operates a nonprofit fitness club called *Free.
Prof. Charles Kaski holds a M.S. in criminal justice administration from the University of Colorado and a B.A. in criminology from the University of New Mexico. Over the last 20 years, Prof. Kaski has served in a multitude of security related public sector fields such as Homeland Security, U.S. Military Intelligence, Emergency Management, Probation & Parole, and Juvenile Criminal Offender Case Management. As a public service leader and law enforcement officer, he is a passionate and active member of the criminal justice field. With an array of practical real-world leadership experience, Prof. Kaski enjoys educating and training young adults to become successful officers in the criminal justice field.
As an adjunct faculty member Prof. Kaski has taught Causes of Crime, Restorative Community Justice, Cognitive-Behavioral Restructuring, and Criminogenic Risk Factors. With each course, he strives to ensure that students are engaged, focused, and determined to succeed. He believes the study of criminology is an exciting but ever changing and dynamic field. It requires motivated individuals to inspire and lead by example. It is not enough to simply sit behind a desk and lecture to students. He believes the justice field needs students that are not only structured and academically disciplined but are also capable of thinking critically.
